They're back, but not how you remember. In the lead-up to Air Max Day, Nike continues to touch on some of the most memorable moments in the Air Max 1's history. This time it's the Japanese-exclusive "Shima Shima" pack, which garnered its name from the striped lining.
Back in 2003, the concept of collaborations, themed sneakers and "packs" was almost non-existent. The only place that really had anything of the sort was – of course – Japan. Back in '03 Nike released the "Shima Shima" pack, which consisted of the Dunk High, Air Max 1 and Air Trainer 1. The original drop featured all three styles finished in a white/navy/blue makeup with distinctive pinstriped lining and red Kanji on the tongue labels. Not long after, a second Shima Shima drop came, this time in tones of brown and beige suede. This Air Max 1 combines both releases into one shoe, flipping the original navy blue for brown.
